Bill Gates Bio
While growing up in Bolton Landing and working at my parents business, the Bill Gates Diner, I heard many stories of early Bolton and started to develop a profound interest in my family history as well as the history of the area. My great great great grandfather, John Gates, settled here in 1790 and was present at the first town meeting in 1799, and our family has had a presence in the town ever since.
Since retiring from teaching in the Glens Falls City School system in 2001, I have been able to devote more time to my passionate interest in local history, having just completed my 8th book on the subject. I serve on the boards of various local arts and history organizations, and have enjoyed community theater for many years. Since 1986, I have also pursued one of my other passions by serving as a Steamboat Captain on Lake George piloting the Mohican and the Lac du Saint Sacrement.
