Bistro Tallulah Review Quote

24 February 2011

Review: I’ve dined twice at Bistro Tallulah while in Glens Falls for work assignments at the Adirondack Theatre Festival, and I’m thrilled to find such a satisfying eatery downtown, right around the corner from the theater. (I like Davidson Brothers’ beer, but the food evokes just a “meh” and the brewpub isn’t air-conditioned.) Tallulah, open since late last year, is a small, casual place with an authentic bistro feel, including paper table coverings torn from a large roll, carafes of wine, chunky glassware, duck confit, whole roasted suckling pig and a large window into the kitchen at the back, where chef-owner Shawn Whalen is always visible at work. Whalen offers large and small sizes of most of his dishes, and I love being able to have a small plate of scallops, for example, followed by a $10 petite steak frites with Gorgonzola or a $12 dish of herb-crusted sweetbreads atop potato and celery-root puree. Given gas prices, I don’t see driving up to Tallulah just for dinner, but it’s a must-stop anytime I’m in the area. LINK TO ARTICLE

Steve Barnes column: 5 local Capital Region chefs who keep the heat on

The Capital Region has its share of big-name chefs, but the majority of local diners on any given night are fed, and fed well, by chefs who work out of the spotlight, whether as sous chefs in top kitchens or as chef-owners in small, casual eateries. It's not possible to give attention to all of those who deserve it, but let's start the new year by recognizing a representative five chefs who consistently do great work...  More

Our rustic Adirondack Chandler Candles are hand dipped slowly in pairs. Each dip produces 120 beautiful spun-silk finished candles. A carrousel is hand turned 25-30 times over a 3 hour period as wax gradually builds up to create these slow burning, drip-less and smokless candles. Our candles are pleasantly and moderately scented.

About Bev Saunders

My work in pastels are a constant study in color, texture and the relationships of light and atmosphere. By capturing time and space in landscapes and still life, I create a sense of peace and serenity. In today’s fast paced world these qualities are hard to come by.

My landscape images are inspired by photographs of places that are special to me. I, in turn, wish to share that with the viewer.

The still life images are just that...still life. There is certain peaceful quietness in still life that engages the artist as well the viewer...a time to step out of the now and into a place which clears the mind and renews the spirit.

New to portraits of people, I am encouraged to continue my experience in rendering portraits of people, homes and animals in pastel, hoping to capture their emotional and personal nature in the traditional yet classic form.
