About Bev Saunders

My work in pastels are a constant study in color, texture and the relationships of light and atmosphere. By capturing time and space in landscapes and still life, I create a sense of peace and serenity. In today’s fast paced world these qualities are hard to come by.

My landscape images are inspired by photographs of places that are special to me. I, in turn, wish to share that with the viewer.

The still life images are just that...still life. There is certain peaceful quietness in still life that engages the artist as well the viewer...a time to step out of the now and into a place which clears the mind and renews the spirit.

New to portraits of people, I am encouraged to continue my experience in rendering portraits of people, homes and animals in pastel, hoping to capture their emotional and personal nature in the traditional yet classic form.

About Betty O'Brien

I am a watermedia artist who creates paintings and "painterly prints" called monotypes in a unique blend of media and subject. Beginning with recognizable natural elements, I manipulate forms according to my personal feelings, ideas and the historical interpretation of modern art
movements.

The work is "Expressively Realistic" because the subjects are edited and transformed with a variety of techniques to produce the essence of a feeling or idea about the subject. I feel free to interpret and generalize about forms or part of a landscape and often the reference seems to call for a certain process or combination of media.

Throughout a long teaching career I have taught students to create works using multiple media, techniques, and stylistic and compositional concepts. Presently I teach watercolor and other watermedia applications at my studio and teaching facility called the "Watermedia Academy". I am open, in my work and teaching, to experimentation and finding balance in the creative process between planning and intuition.
